Renault on Wednesday named Francois Provost as its new chief executive officer, selecting a long-serving internal executive to lead the French carmaker through a period of softening demand and intensifying industry competition. The appointment becomes effective on July 31.
Provost, who most recently served as chief procurement officer, succeeds Luca de Meo, who stepped down in June to join luxury group Kering. The leadership transition comes at a critical moment for Renault, which earlier this month issued a profit warning after lower-than-expected vehicle sales in June and revised its full-year margin forecast downward.
Renault has cited Provost’s operational and strategic experience as key factors behind the appointment. The company praised his deep sector knowledge and leadership background, including his role in implementing the transformation plan launched in 2022. Provost has also held several senior roles within the group, including Director of International Development and Partnerships, and Director of Public Affairs.
“I will dedicate all my energy and passion to contributing – alongside our 100,000 employees, our dealers, suppliers, and partners – to the development of our Group,” Provost said following his appointment. He emphasized Renault’s strong fundamentals and organizational model as critical to navigating future challenges.
Jean-Dominique Senard, Chairman of Renault’s Board, expressed confidence in Provost’s leadership, stating that his expertise and determination would be valuable assets in finalizing and executing the company’s upcoming strategic roadmap. Provost has played a central role in shaping Renault’s global partnerships, including alliances with Geely in South Korea, the restructuring of its relationship with Nissan, and the Horse powertrain joint venture with Geely and Aramco.
