A start-up or startup from Japan, 3DOM Inc. will launch a commercial fleet service using electric vehicles (EV) from Geely Holding Group, China.
This Yokohama-based company was founded in 2014 with a focus on developing battery technology. 3DOM Inc will offer electric vehicle rental services with a subscription or rental system, so that users can avoid high vehicle purchase costs.
Quoted from Reuters.com, Friday (4/8/2022) this collaboration with 3DOM makes Geely a leader in the EV vehicle market in Japan which is relatively cheap.
Delivery service company Sagawa Express Co also plans to replace its 7,200 mini-commercial vehicles with electric vehicles, which will be supplied by Guangxi Automobile Group this year.
Another company, SBS Holdings, also plans to use electric trucks produced by Dongfeng Motor Group.
3DOM said the cost of a van rental service using an electric vehicle would be on par with a gasoline-powered fleet.
3DOM’s fleet reaches 7,500 units including delivery service fleets. Currently 3DOM is considering adding supermarket operator services.
Other Japanese automakers, such as Mitsubishi Motors Corp., have provided EVs for postal services, while Toyota Motor Corp. has trial services with convenience store operators using electric vehicles.
