Fisker, a California-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has unveiled its latest creation, the PEAR, showcasing Tesla-like ambitions despite its current workforce of around 1,000 employees and the absence of a US factory. During the introductory speech at the Product Vision Day 2023, the founder and CEO expressed plans to scale production to “millions of vehicles per year,” instilling confidence in the potential of the new model.
The PEAR has been designed to cater to the lifestyles of today and tomorrow, with a specific focus on young individuals residing in urban areas. The crossover is smaller than its sibling, the Ocean, offering a high level of versatility inside. Drawing inspiration from Fisker’s flagship model, the Ronin, the PEAR embodies contemporary design elements.
Displayed at the event as a two-row, six-seater model, the PEAR’s front row features a bench seat arrangement, enabling three occupants to comfortably sit in both the front and back. The model showcased does not include the large rotating screen for infotainment, but Fisker plans to offer a five-seater version with the Revolve touchscreen and a clever front storage solution.
The PEAR boasts several unique features, including a “Houdini trunk,” reminiscent of the BMW Z1’s doors. The rear windshield drops down into the tailgate, which then retracts into a dedicated cavity in the bumper, facilitating parking in tight spaces or garages with low ceilings.
Despite its shorter wheelbase, the PEAR maintains an open and well-lit cabin, thanks to large frameless windows that allow ample sunlight to enter, dispelling any claustrophobia concerns.
Fisker has developed a new platform called SVM1 for the PEAR, streamlining manufacturing and contributing to its attractive price. The vehicle is powered by the Fisker Blade, a powerful processing unit infused with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Notably, the PEAR will be produced in the United States and will qualify for the full EV tax credit. This tax credit would reduce its price from $29,900 to $22,400, providing added incentive for potential buyers.
Starting in 2024, qualifying buyers can apply the federal incentive at the point of sale. Fisker’s direct sales model ensures a straightforward process for customers, with deliveries of the PEAR commencing in the summer of 2025.
Reservations for the PEAR are now open through the carmaker’s app or web platform, requiring a $250 deposit from prospective customers to secure their place in the reservation queue. With the introduction of the PEAR, Fisker aims to make a bold statement in the EV market, targeting a younger urban demographic with its innovative and value-oriented offering.
