China’s annual auto show, the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show, has been temporarily postponed due to the soaring Covid-19 cases in the city and the Covid-19 restrictions imposed in the country.
According to the committee, the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show is planned to be held from 18 to 27 November 2022.
“Complying with the Government’s policies on epidemic prevention and control as well as paying attention to the physical health of exhibitors and public safety, our organizing committee for the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show has decided to postpone the auto show,” the event’s organizing committee wrote in a statement.
A number of automakers such as Toyota, which are planning to launch the bZ3 electric car, are likely to be affected by the postponement of the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show.
Kyodo News reports that 200 million citizens in 28 cities across China have been banned from outdoor activities since October 24 due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Previous Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions have led to delays in the production of Tesla, Volkswagen, Toyota and others.
In addition, electric car manufacturer Nio earlier last week also announced that it had stopped EV production at its two factories located in the city of Hefei, China.
