So far this year, 17.7 percent of new vehicles in California were Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEVs). The percentage represents 250,486 electric vehicles (BEV), fuel cell electric (FCEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV).
In 2022 so far, 209,702 BEVs were sold in the state of California, compared to 183,933 EVs sold throughout 2021. ZEV adoption in the state is up 42.7 percent during 2021, and 126.9 percent during 2020.
Tesla with its portfolio leading the sales chart. The US electric vehicle giant has sold more than 69,306 Model 3s in California, more than all other EV manufacturers combined.
For its entire portfolio, Tesla has sold 152,835 electric vehicles in California. That’s 73 percent of all EVs sold in California this year, and 61 percent of all ZEVs are Tesla products.
During the first three quarters of this year. a total of more than 1.4 million vehicles sold in California. This state is at the forefront of the rest of the US. Recent estimates show that ZEVs account for only 4.9 percent of new car sales across the US.
