ZF introduced its latest electric central drive, the eCD110-230, at the Bauma trade fair in Munich, designed for medium to large construction equipment and marking the latest expansion of its eTRAC electric driveline portfolio.
The new system, which supports power outputs up to 230 kW, is intended for integration into a wide range of construction vehicles. ZF said the modular nature of the eTRAC platform enables flexibility across different machinery classes, from compact loaders to heavy wheel loaders. “The eTRAC electric drive system satisfies all the expectations for performance and productivity found in traditional drivelines and combines them with the extensive benefits and opportunities that electric systems have to offer,” the company said.

Developed primarily at ZF’s Friedrichshafen facility, the eCD110-230 is set for series production at the company’s site in Passau. It operates at 650 volts and is capable of delivering a continuous output of up to 120 kW. The drive also includes an electric power take-off (ePTO) with an output range of 30 to 70 kW, as well as a system control unit and energy management system.
ZF said the new system not only helps reduce emissions and maintenance costs compared to combustion engines but also enables advanced vehicle designs through integration of intelligent control and braking systems. “Bauma is an important opportunity for us to showcase what is technologically possible – and how deeply rooted ZF is in the region,” said Andreas Moser, head of ZF’s Industrial Technology division. “Our solutions combine mechanical expertise with digital intelligence.”

The eCD110-230 joins ZF’s existing electric drive models for smaller machinery, including the eCD50, eCD70 and eCD90, which cover continuous power levels between 20 and 80 kW. All are compatible with both battery-electric and fuel-cell drivetrains.
ZF also highlighted the CeTrax 2 and CeTrax 2 dual central drives at Bauma, designed for construction site trucks and specialized vehicles. These systems, based on ZF’s modular e-drive platform for heavy commercial vehicles, support retrofitting for platforms originally developed for combustion engines. “It enables cost-effective conversion with comparatively little development effort,” the company stated.

Despite its focus on electrification, ZF acknowledged the continued relevance of combustion engines in the industry. “Even though ZF is pursuing the goal of making construction and special vehicles completely emission-free, diesel engines will continue to dominate the market and the industry for a long time to come,” said Ralf Boss, head of the Special Vehicle Systems Product Line.
