XPeng, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, continues to witness a slow but steady rebound in its delivery figures, setting the stage for the arrival of their highly anticipated new SUV model, the G6.
In the month of May, XPeng delivered a total of 7,506 vehicles, representing a 25.87 percent decline compared to the same period last year. However, it marked a 6.03 percent increase from April, making it the fourth consecutive month to demonstrate sequential growth.
During the period from January to May, XPeng’s deliveries amounted to 32,815 vehicles, reflecting a decrease of 38.88 percent compared to the corresponding timeframe in the previous year.
XPeng’s cumulative deliveries since its inception reached 291,525 vehicles by the end of May.
Of particular note is the significant rise in deliveries of the P7i model compared to the previous month, as reported by XPeng. The company plans to further expedite deliveries of the P7i throughout June.
XPeng announced that the presale for their G6 Ultra Smart Coupe SUV will commence on June 9, with display vehicles available at their stores.
Media feedback on the G6 has highlighted its superior Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) capabilities and utilization of an 800V platform for fast charging. XPeng invited members of the press for test drives in May to showcase these advantages over other electric models.
The company expressed high expectations for the G6, anticipating it to become one of the most popular and best-selling models in China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) SUV market. The price range for the G6 is expected to be between RMB 200,000 ($28,130) and RMB 300,000.
During the announcement of their first-quarter earnings on May 24, XPeng projected second-quarter deliveries in the range of 21,000 to 22,000 units. Considering the delivery count of 14,585 vehicles in April and May, it is estimated that the June deliveries will fall within the range of 6,415 to 7,415 units.
XPeng encountered supply chain challenges during the initial delivery phase of the P7i model, primarily due to a shortage of batteries and battery-related components. The company’s management revealed plans to increase the ternary lithium battery capacity in May and June to meet the demand for the P7i.
Starting in June, XPeng will collaborate with its supplier partners to enhance parts capacity for the P7i, thereby expediting its delivery process.
The upcoming G6 SUV holds great significance for XPeng. Pre-sales for the G6, aimed at competing with Tesla’s Model Y, will commence on June 9. Sales of the XPeng G6 are set to begin in June, with large-scale deliveries scheduled to start in July. The company’s management emphasized that production capacity will ramp up rapidly.
XPeng expects the G6 to be a popular choice in China’s NEV SUV market, priced between RMB 200,000 and 300,000. They anticipate that the G6’s launch will drive XPeng’s total deliveries to surpass industry growth rates in the third quarter.
