Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has announced that it will officially unveil its first electric vehicle (EV), the Xiaomi SU7, on March 28. Deliveries of the SU7 are expected to commence immediately after the launch, according to Xiaomi’s EV unit Xiaomi EV’s announcement on Weibo.
Customers will have the opportunity to experience the Xiaomi SU7 starting March 25, with reservations currently being accepted. The model’s show cars will be displayed in 59 stores across 29 cities initially.
Xiaomi made its foray into the automotive industry official on March 30, 2021, and showcased the SU7 for the first time on December 28, 2023.
Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group, hinted at an imminent launch of the Xiaomi SU7, suggesting that domestic deliveries could start as early as the second quarter, as reported by CNBC on February 26.
Rumors about the SU7’s launch date had been circulating, with a Zeekr executive mentioning on February 27, following the launch of Zeekr 001, that Xiaomi’s first EV model would debut on March 28. Xiaomi responded by stating that the exact release date would be communicated through official channels.
While Xiaomi had not previously disclosed the SU7’s pricing, reports indicate that its top-trim could cost RMB 361,400 ($50,310) at the time of insurance purchase, suggesting a starting price range between RMB 250,000 and RMB 370,000, according to Jiemian.
Comparatively, Tesla’s Model 3 sedan, which is smaller than the SU7, is priced between RMB 245,900 and RMB 285,900 in China.
