German carmaker Wiesmann has seen high demand for its upcoming electric vehicle (EV), with customers filling its order books for the first year of production before the car has even been officially named.
The car, currently known as “Project Thunderball,” is a retro-futuristic roadster, and Wiesmann has announced that it will only produce 1,000 examples. Production is set to begin in 2024, meaning that those who haven’t already ordered will face a long wait before they can take delivery.
“To have already sold out the first year of production proves the unique appeal of Project Thunderball and represents a phenomenal start to a Wiesmann’s new, electrified era,” said Roheen Berry, Wiesmann’s CEO. “We are all extremely proud that Project Thunderball—the car which heralds the return of the storied Wiesmann brand—should resonate so strongly with driving enthusiasts from around the world.”

Wiesmann’s “Project Thunderball” sports a classic two-seater design but is powered by two electric motors mounted in front of the rear wheels, providing a combined output of 670 hp (500 kW/680 PS) and 738 lb-ft (1,100 Nm) of torque.
The car is expected to reach 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds, thanks to its 92 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that Wiesmann plans to install to achieve a nearly 50/50 weight distribution.
Wiesmann plans to equip “Project Thunderball” with a 92 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to achieve a driving range of 311 miles (500 km) and provide owners with convenient superfast 300 kW DC charging.
Production will begin in 2024 at the company’s “Gecko” facility in Dülmen, Germany. Interested buyers can sign up for Wiesmann’s new waiting list, with prices starting at €300,000 ($320,625 USD at current exchange rates).
