Automotive supplier Webasto has recently opened a new production plant in Guanajuato, Mexico, dedicated to charging solutions to meet the increasing demand in North America. With current production lines, the new plant is producing around 10,000 chargers per week, and this is expected to double by the end of the year.
Webasto plans to boost its production capacity by increasing the workforce and adding more production lines. The company aims to increase the workforce to enable a production capacity of 20,000 chargers per week and expand the plant by a further 10,000 square meters by 2025.
Webasto’s relocation to the new plant was due to space limitations and higher customer demand. The company decided to relocate the entire production of wall box charging stations and mobile chargers to the new site in Guanajuato, which can be further expanded.

The move to the new plant marks Webasto’s expansion into the electric mobility market in North America, in addition to producing battery systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, as well as high-voltage heaters for hybrid and electric vehicles. In 2022, Webasto’s incoming orders in the electromobility business field more than doubled compared to the previous year, with customers ordering battery systems, electric heaters and charging solutions for around 2.8 billion euros from the Munich-based supplier.
Marcel Bartling, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Technology Officer of Webasto SE, says that the new plant in North America is another step in executing the company’s strategy and reinforces its investment in the future. The company has successfully established itself in the charging market in North America in a relatively short period and, with the new plant, will be able to fully support local customers in the future.
