VinFast EVs to Adopt StoreDot and VinES’ Extreme Fast Charging Batteries by 2025

StoreDot, the company behind the ultrafast Tesla-like 4680 cells, has announced its partnership with VinES Energy Solutions to develop Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) battery cells for VinFast EVs. The first generation of this XFC battery cell will be immediately adopted by VinFast vehicles when it becomes commercially available in 2025.

VinES, a member company of Vingroup, the largest private conglomerate in Vietnam, specializes in researching, developing, and manufacturing advanced Li-ion batteries for mobility and energy storage. Together, StoreDot and VinES will research, develop, and offer XFC battery cells in different form factors to prepare for mass production and supply.

StoreDot will license and share its XFC technology, while VinES will provide its experience with multiple form factor development, manufacturing, validation, and global supply chain network. The CEO of VinES, Pham Thuy Linh, believes that with the XFC technology, it will offer improved customer experience, provide cost savings, and remove charging time anxiety entirely.

VinFast was the lead investor in StoreDot’s Series D funding round of up to $80 million in January 2022. StoreDot’s strategic investors also include Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, Samsung, and TDK. Furthermore, in January 2023, StoreDot announced that it will be opening a research facility in Irvine, California, to speed up the development of semi-solid battery technology and battery material research.

The Israeli company’s first lab is in Herzliya, Israel, and it has manufacturing facilities in China and Korea. StoreDot is on track to meet its 2024 target of mass-producing “100in5” cells that will deliver at least 100 miles of range in five minutes of charging.

This partnership between StoreDot and VinES is a significant step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future with the potential to revolutionize the EV market. As the world moves towards renewable energy, the development of faster and more efficient charging solutions will be essential, and this partnership could pave the way for even greater advancements in the field.
