UPS has announced the addition of 188 electric delivery vehicles to its German fleet and four to its Swiss operations as part of its push towards a more sustainable delivery network in Europe. This marks the first electric vehicle deployment in Switzerland for the courier and package (CEP) provider, reinforcing its goal to decarbonize operations across the continent.
The new fleet comprises Iveco eDaily electric trucks in several configurations: 49 units of 3.8-tonne trucks (P45E) with a 14-cubic-meter capacity, 106 units of 7.2-tonne trucks (P80E) with a 23-cubic-meter capacity, and 37 units of 7.2-tonne trucks (P100E) offering 28 cubic meters of space. Four of the 3.8-tonne trucks will operate in Switzerland, with the remaining deployed across Germany.
Each vehicle is equipped with a battery tailored to its size: the smaller models come with 74 kWh batteries, while the larger trucks feature 111 kWh batteries, allowing for up to 230 kilometers of range. UPS has stated the rollout will progress incrementally, with all vehicles expected to be operational by year-end. In Germany, cities including Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, and Munich will benefit from the fleet’s deployment, while in Switzerland, the new EVs will serve Bülach near Zurich.
UPS has set an ambitious target to add 600 electric delivery vehicles across Europe by the close of 2024.
