Berlin-based charging infrastructure provider Ubitricity has marked a significant milestone by surpassing 10,000 charging points within its network. The achievement was realized in the Netherlands, where Ubitricity made a substantial addition to its charging infrastructure by incorporating approximately 1,500 existing AC charging points in the regions of North Holland, Flevoland, and Utrecht. This expansion into the Dutch market took place in July 2023, further solidifying Ubitricity’s position as a leading player in the charging industry.
It’s important to note that the 10,000 charging points encompass not only self-installed chargers utilizing Ubitricity hardware but also a majority that relies on the company’s components, underscoring the widespread adoption of its technology.
The United Kingdom represents the largest market for Ubitricity, boasting more than 7,000 public charging points. Notably, Ubitricity’s original business model involved retrofitting one thousand charging points into existing lampposts in various districts of Berlin. While not all of these retrofitted chargers are currently operational, Ubitricity’s network is poised for continued growth. Moreover, the company has diversified its offerings by introducing free-standing charging points, expanding beyond its initial focus on street lamps.
In addition to its core operations, Ubitricity is actively collaborating with local authorities across the UK to facilitate the deployment of AC fast and DC rapid charging points for public use. This strategic engagement underscores Ubitricity’s commitment to enhancing charging solutions in public spaces, extending its reach far beyond the realm of lamppost chargers.
Since becoming part of the Shell Group in 2021, Ubitricity has played a pivotal role in the expansion of charging infrastructure within the Mobility Division. The collaboration between Ubitricity and Shell, as well as other key partners, has been instrumental in ensuring the reliability and growth of public charging stations. As part of this synergy, the branding of the 10,000 charging points is set to undergo both physical and digital transformation, adopting the name “Shell Recharge.”
Ubitricity’s achievement of surpassing 10,000 charging points underscores its commitment to advancing charging infrastructure and promoting electric mobility solutions, marking a significant step forward in the transition to sustainable transportation.
