Toyota Motor North America has announced the renaming of its TMNA R&D California office to the new North American Hydrogen Headquarters (H2HQ). This strategic move positions the team to focus on the commercialization and sales of hydrogen-related products and technologies in the region.
H2HQ will play a key role in localizing global hydrogen-related technologies and products, encompassing light-duty fuel cell applications, heavy-duty fuel cell opportunities, stationary fuel cell power generation, port vehicle applications, and more. The facility is already equipped with research and development assets, including a hydrogen fueling station capable of servicing both light- and heavy-duty vehicles.
Ted Ogawa, President and CEO of Toyota Motor North America, highlighted the company’s commitment to advancing hydrogen fuel cell electric solutions, stating, “Toyota has developed hydrogen fuel cell electric solutions for more than three decades, and we will continue to advance this scalable, zero-emission technology as part of our electrified portfolio. Renaming this facility as North American Hydrogen Headquarters represents our leadership in fuel cell development creating real-world products to help reduce carbon emissions.”
The establishment of H2HQ underscores Toyota’s dedication to hydrogen technology and its integration into its product lineup. In 2023, Toyota reorganized its hydrogen business in Japan, creating the ‘Hydrogen Factory,’ aimed at consolidating hydrogen-related work to accelerate customer-oriented product development and production in fuel cell and hydrogen-related products.
