Tesla has unveiled a render of its forthcoming ‘Semi Factory’ for the production of electric semi trucks, located adjacent to Gigafactory Texas in Nevada.

The Tesla Semi program, which faced significant delays since its inception, was initially unveiled in 2017 with plans to launch in 2020. However, production officially began in late 2022. Despite this, the production has remained limited, with Tesla having built around 70 Semi trucks as of October 2023. These trucks are currently used internally by Tesla and one primary customer, PepsiCo.

In January 2023, Tesla announced plans to expand Gigafactory Nevada to ramp up the production of the Tesla Semi. Progress on this effort has been slow, with significant construction activities only beginning earlier this year. In April, Tesla indicated that the new factory is expected to be completed next year, with production of the Tesla Semi trucks slated to begin by late 2025.

Dan Priestley, the head of the Tesla Semi program, recently shared a picture of the current progress at the site along with a render of the finished factory. While Tesla has not disclosed many specifics about the plant, the automaker has previously stated its goal of producing up to 50,000 Tesla Semis per year.

This new factory represents a significant step in Tesla’s efforts to expand its electric vehicle lineup and increase the production capacity for its semi trucks.
