Tesla Unveils New, More Affordable Model Y Trim in Europe

Tesla has unveiled its latest addition to the Model Y lineup in select European countries, introducing the Long Range rear-wheel-drive model. The new trim aims to offer a more affordable option to customers, addressing the need for lower-priced vehicles in the market.

In the last quarter, Tesla faced disappointing delivery figures and accumulated an inventory of 46,000 vehicles. While some of these were already sold during transit, the overall inventory added up to over 100,000 vehicles. The automaker, like many others, is seeking ways to counter high-interest rates, and the introduction of a more cost-effective Model Y variant is part of that strategy.

The Long Range rear-wheel-drive Model Y starts at €48,990, making it the second cheapest Model Y in the lineup, priced €4,000 higher than the standard range rear-wheel-drive version. Despite the price increase, Tesla promises value with the longest range in the Model Y lineup, boasting 600 km (373 miles) on the WLTP standard when equipped with 19″ Gemini wheels.

Tesla claims this new variant offers the “lowest cost per kilometer in the electric SUV market (14.9 kWh/100 km).” The model is currently available in several European markets, including Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Romania, and Hungary.
