Tesla announced plans to roll out its advanced V4 Supercharger Cabinet in 2025, expected to support record-breaking charging speeds of up to 500 kW for passenger vehicles and 1.2 MW for the Tesla Semi.

The company’s new charging technology will cater to both Tesla and non-Tesla EVs, enhancing the versatility of its network.

The V4 Superchargers, first deployed in Europe in 2023, currently deliver 350 kW speeds, a slight upgrade from the previous V3 chargers but built primarily to support higher-voltage architectures, which are still gaining traction in the EV market. Tesla’s established models, including the Model S, 3, X, and Y, continue to receive 250 kW charge rates on V3 units, with up to 200 miles of range added in 15 minutes.

The V4 Cabinet is positioned to support the next evolution in EV charging, as it accommodates architectures ranging from 400 to 1000 volts, which Tesla says will enable “the fastest charging speeds” available. The new cabinets are set to open next year, with Tesla already securing permits for installations.

Tesla’s investment in rapid charging technology aims to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse EV landscape, as CEO Elon Musk’s company shares its Supercharging Network with other automakers. “With updated stalls for all EV architectures, Tesla will offer a reliable, universal charging experience,” Tesla said in a post, highlighting its strategy to maintain a competitive edge in EV infrastructure.
