Tesla has officially confirmed the establishment of Gigafactory in Mexico, and new details have started to emerge gradually. The Gigafactory is set to be built in Monterrey, Mexico, which is a mere 383 miles away from Giga Texas. Gigafactories, by their very nature, are colossal in size, but Giga Mexico will exceed all expectations.

Giga Texas occupies a site of 2,500 acres, but Giga Mexico will be even more massive, with a designated area of 4,200 acres, making it larger than the entirety of Giga Nevada’s 2,864 acres of land. In fact, Giga Mexico, even with just its existing structures, will be nearly as expansive as all of Tesla’s factories combined.

The company intends to allocate $5 billion and hire up to 5,000 workers during the construction phase. Various reports suggest that the total investment will amount to $10 billion, with a target workforce of 10,000 individuals. This translates to a vast employment opportunity for the over one million residents of Monterrey.

The land where the factory will be located is in the process of being purchased. The green light for development was given after Elon Musk guaranteed that the factory would utilize only recycled water for production. This was a significant stumbling block since the State of Nuevo Leon has been experiencing drought, and last year was especially difficult, with numerous families enduring weeks without water.
