Tesla is set to broaden the rollout of its latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software update, CEO Elon Musk confirmed this week. Following an initial limited release of the FSD Supervised v12.5.1 to a select group of customers, Musk announced on Monday that a wider deployment would commence today.

The initial phase of the rollout focuses on Model Y units equipped with the HW4 hardware, with plans to expand to other models in the near future. Musk clarified that vehicles equipped with HW3 hardware would receive the update in about 10 days, pending additional validation.
It takes considerable software effort to optimize the code enough to run on HW3. It also needs to be validated separately.
Estimated rollout is about 10 days.

Musk also addressed the FSD update timeline for Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck, indicating that the new model would receive FSD v12.5 in approximately two to four weeks. “The Cybertruck should get FSD sometime in August,” Musk noted, though he was unsure of the exact release date.
FSD v12.5.1 introduces several enhancements, including the integration of highway and city driving into a single stack, the addition of Actual Smart Summon, and support for driver monitoring with sunglasses without the nag. According to Musk, this version contains five times more parameters than its predecessor, v12.4.
Autopilot Director Ashok Elluswamy emphasized the focus on improving safety and driving smoothness with the new version. “One of my personal tests is to not spill an open cup of coffee while on FSD,” Elluswamy wrote on X last week. “12.5 was the first version where I was able to do that for 30 min long drives.”
The expanded rollout is part of Tesla’s ongoing efforts to enhance its autonomous driving capabilities and improve the overall driving experience for its customers.
