A Tesla Model 3 prototype wrapped in camouflage tape has been seen on public roads in California, raising speculation that the automaker may be preparing another redesign or new variant of its electric sedan. The use of black and white camouflage suggests Tesla is testing design or hardware changes that it is not yet ready to reveal.
This latest sighting follows a similar appearance in January, when another camouflaged Model 3 was observed, shortly after the launch of the refreshed version. Despite the recent overhaul, the presence of a new prototype indicates that Tesla may be moving quickly to implement further updates, possibly aligned with the Model Y Juniper refresh that began deliveries in March.

Tesla has previously confirmed work on several new vehicles, including more affordable options expected to launch in the first half of the year. Some reports have suggested that these upcoming models could be scaled-down versions of existing vehicles, such as the Model Y, which might also mean a more cost-effective Model 3 is in development. However, these prototypes are likely to remain visually similar to current models, making them difficult to identify without close inspection.

The automaker is also believed to be testing mechanical upgrades that were recently introduced in the Model Y, such as a redesigned heat pump and a new braking system that combines regenerative and friction braking. These systems could require extensive on-road validation if they are to be implemented in the Model 3.

In addition to possible internal changes, speculation has emerged about minor exterior design tweaks and the return of certain features, such as the turn-signal stalk, which was removed in the latest Model 3 redesign. Tesla’s decision to eliminate the stalk was met with mixed reactions, and a revised implementation could address user feedback while aligning the Model 3 more closely with recent updates made to the Model Y.
Although no official details have been released by Tesla, the appearance of camouflaged prototypes indicates that the company continues to iterate rapidly on its core vehicle lineup, potentially combining design refinements with feature enhancements aimed at improving performance and user experience.
