Tesla Plans to Extend Custom Avatar Wrap Feature to Additional Models

Tesla has announced plans to expand a feature allowing drivers to customize their vehicle’s infotainment center avatar to models beyond the Cybertruck. The feature, which debuted in the recent 2024 Holiday Update, enables owners to create and display personalized digital wraps and license plates on the vehicle’s infotainment screen.

A post from Tesla’s Cybertruck account on X earlier this week showcased the new customization capabilities, along with a GitHub link detailing instructions for creating and uploading custom virtual wraps. Responding to a query, the account confirmed, “wrap & license plate customization coming to other models in future updates.”

To use the feature, owners follow a template with specific guidelines, including a resolution of 1024×768 pixels, a maximum file size of 1 MB, and a .png format. Once the image is created, users load up to ten wrap designs into a folder named “Wraps” on a USB drive, which is then plugged into the Cybertruck. The wraps can be accessed through the Toybox menu under the “Paint Shop” and “Wrap” options.

The feature’s release notes highlight Tesla’s aim for personalization:
“Personalize your Cybertruck avatar with a custom wrap & license plate! Use one of many preloaded designs or create and upload custom ones using a USB flash drive. Details on template and instructions will be published via GitHub.”

Tesla has not specified a timeline for introducing this functionality to other models, though the Cybertruck’s current emphasis on unique wrap designs aligns with its distinct design culture. The update comes months after Tesla reduced its range of Cybertruck wrap options, which once included up to 11 colors earlier this year.

The 2024 Holiday Update also includes other significant features, such as improvements to Sentry Mode, a long-anticipated Tesla Apple Watch app, and various system enhancements.
