Tesla has rolled out a new software update that introduces a three-point turning feature, enhancing the maneuverability of its vehicles. The update, version 2024.14.3, brings several enhancements, including an upgraded Auto Shift option, initially available on the Model S and Model X.

The Auto Shift feature, which automatically selects between Drive and Reverse, now includes the ability to execute K-turns, allowing the vehicle to go into Drive, then Reverse, and back to Drive to change direction. This functionality was first hinted at in a leaked interface for the Model 3 Performance and is now being implemented in Tesla’s higher-end sedan and SUV models.

In addition to the new turning capability, the software update includes a redesigned gear indicator interface that occupies less screen space, providing room for an expanded media player interface at the bottom. This update aligns with Tesla’s commitment to continually improve its vehicles’ functionality through over-the-air software updates.

While the new features are currently available on the Model S and Model X, it is expected that they will eventually make their way to other Tesla models, including the Model 3 and Cybertruck. The rollout of these features underscores Tesla’s focus on enhancing the driving experience and staying at the forefront of automotive technology.

Despite these advancements, it remains unclear when the popular Model Y will receive the Auto Shift feature. However, with the upcoming Juniper facelift, which is rumored to feature a stalkless design to reduce production costs, the inclusion of Auto Shift in the Model Y seems plausible in the future.

For Tesla vehicles equipped with Auto Shift, the feature can be activated through the Controls > Pedals and Steering submenu. Tesla owners can expect further updates and enhancements as the company continues to refine its software and expand the capabilities of its vehicles.
