Tesla has announced that its popular Quicksilver paint option is now available for all Model Y trims in the United States and Canada.

Previously exclusive to the Long Range All Wheel Drive (AWD) and Performance variants, Quicksilver is now also offered for the Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) model. This move is expected to be well-received by consumers, given the paint’s popularity among Model Y enthusiasts.

A review of the Tesla Model Y’s order page for the United States and Canada confirms that Quicksilver can now be selected for the RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance variants of the all-electric crossover. Industry observers have noted the expansion of this paint option, which was initially limited to higher-end versions of the Model Y.

Quicksilver debuted in October 2022 alongside Midnight Cherry Red, both of which were initially exclusive to Model Y units produced at Gigafactory Berlin.

Tesla had highlighted that Quicksilver’s unique appearance was made possible by Giga Berlin’s advanced paint shop, capable of applying up to 13 layers of paint. These layers give the premium paint options a dynamic look that changes with the viewing angle.

Originally priced at a premium €3,000, Quicksilver was more expensive than other Tesla paint options like the Red Multi-Coat, which was priced at €2,000. However, the cost of Quicksilver has since been reduced. The Model Y’s order page now lists Quicksilver at $2,000 in the United States and CA$2,600 in Canada, making it a more affordable option for consumers.

Tesla’s silver paint options have historically been popular, and the retirement of the first-generation Model 3’s Silver Metallic color had disappointed many EV enthusiasts. Quicksilver has emerged as a worthy successor, expected to drive significant interest and orders for the Model 3 and Model Y in the deep silver color this quarter.
