Tesla has submitted regulatory documents for its Cybertruck in China, despite earlier statements from the company indicating it has no immediate plans to launch the all-electric pickup in one of its key markets.
The regulatory filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) includes an Automobile Energy Consumption Label for the Cybertruck, as reported by local media outlet CNEV Post. The filing reveals key specifications such as range, weight, and peak power, with the vehicle classified as an M1 passenger vehicle.
Tesla China earlier denied rumors of an imminent Cybertruck launch, stating, “At present, there are no plans to bring the Cybertruck to the Chinese market.” The statement came as a disappointment to prospective buyers in Asia eager to purchase the distinctive angular pickup.
While the filing is a step toward regulatory compliance, Tesla still faces significant hurdles before the Cybertruck can be sold in China. The energy consumption label is only one of several requirements, and CEO Elon Musk has acknowledged the challenges of introducing the vehicle to international markets. “It would be very difficult to make the Cybertruck road-legal in China,” Musk said previously.
Speculation about an international version of the Cybertruck has grown, with some suggesting Tesla could develop a model tailored for non-U.S. markets. However, the company has not confirmed plans for such a variant.
The Cybertruck’s global rollout has been closely watched, with fans and competitors alike monitoring Tesla’s next moves. While regulatory filings suggest progress, the timeline for a potential China launch remains uncertain.
