Stellantis Faces Software Hurdles in Citroën and Peugeot EV Production

Stellantis is encountering production challenges for its new electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe, with delays impacting both Citroën and Peugeot models due to software and component supply issues, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.

The Citroën ë-C3 EVs have been significantly delayed, with production several months behind schedule due to final software check issues. The company initially planned to start deliveries in the second quarter; however, customers are now expected to receive their vehicles after the summer break. The ë-C3 currently has a pre-order bank of 30,000 units.

“The new EV’s starting price is €23,300 and could be a formidable competitor against China-made EV imports,” one source noted.

In addition to Citroën, Stellantis’ Peugeot brand is also experiencing production difficulties with its e-3008 SUV. The mass production of the electrified e-3008 is hindered by component supply problems, specifically related to the vehicle’s power train. Deliveries, initially expected to begin in February, were delayed and only started in France in March, with other European countries following in June.

Despite these setbacks, Stellantis has continued to pursue its joint venture with Chinese automaker Leapmotor, which has recently shipped EVs to Europe. This move comes in the wake of the European Commission’s new tariffs on electric vehicles made in China.

Stellantis’ efforts to ramp up its EV offerings are critical as the automaker aims to compete in the increasingly competitive EV market, both against European manufacturers and imports from China.
