Stellantis has officially announced that the electric flagship model for the Lancia brand will be named Gamma. This vehicle, set to be based on the STLA Medium platform, will be produced at the Stellantis plant in Melfi, Italy, starting in 2026.
While the name Gamma has not been formally confirmed, statements from Lancia management suggest it is the likely designation. Along with the announcement, Lancia released a photo that appears to show the Gamma lettering on the rear of the vehicle.
Details about the vehicle itself remain limited, with the press release reiterating that the Gamma will utilize the STLA Medium platform, designed from the ground up for electric drives. This platform is already seen in models like the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008, as well as the Opel Grandland. It features a 400-volt architecture and supports batteries with capacities up to 97 kWh, with outputs ranging from 160 to 285 kW. Given that the E-3008 can achieve a range of up to 700 kilometers, the Lancia Gamma, as a fastback sedan, is expected to deliver similar performance.
The Melfi plant was anticipated as the production site due to the choice of the STLA Medium platform, with plans to manufacture five models there. The lineup includes a Lancia model, two DS models, the next generation of the Jeep Compass, and an Opel successor to the Insignia. There had previously been speculation about the name ‘Aurelia,’ a nod to a model series from the 1950s.
The name Gamma also draws on Lancia’s historical model series produced from 1976 to 1984, aligning with the brand’s tradition of using Greek letters for vehicle names, despite occasional deviations. Currently, Lancia offers only the Ypsilon.
Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano commented, “The new Lancia Gamma represents a milestone in our journey towards the future. It embodies our brand’s commitment to sustainability and high performance, while celebrating the unmistakable elegance that has defined Lancia for decades. By producing it at the historic Melfi plant, we are strengthening our connection to Italy’s rich automotive heritage and advancing our vision for an electrified future. Gamma will showcase the best of what Lancia stands for: innovation, style, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”
