NIO is upgrading its ES6 model to the newer NT 2.0 platform. Photos of the updated SUV circulated on Chinese social media last week, and additional images have been released showing more details of the redesign. The new ES6 is equipped with the standard LiDAR system that is part of the NT 2.0 platform, which is visible on the top of the vehicle.
According to an auto blogger who saw the updated ES6 in Hefei, the main change made to the new model is the relocation of the charging port to the back of the vehicle, while other SUVs on the NT 2.0 platform, such as the ES8, EC7, and EL7, still have the charging port at the front. This change is not a requirement of the NT 2.0 platform itself.
Nio is in the process of transitioning its entire fleet to the NT 2.0 platform, with the ES8, EC7, EL7, ET7, and ET5 already using the new platform. The ES8, ES6, and EC6 will soon also be migrated to the NT 2.0 platform, which will bring advanced cockpit features and enhanced assisted driving capabilities.
At the Nio Day 2022 event on December 24, the EC7 and the new ES8 were both introduced, with deliveries set to begin in May and June 2023, respectively. Nio’s CEO, William Li, stated in a conference call on November 10 that the company will introduce five new models in the first half of 2023, for a total of eight models available by June.
The ES6 has been a top seller for Nio, with 32,877 units delivered from January to August 2022, comprising 46% of the company’s total deliveries during that period. It is likely that Nio will prioritize updating this popular SUV.
