In an exciting turn of events, the renowned Lancia Delta Integrale is making a comeback in the 2023 World Rallycross Championship (World RX) as an all-electric powerhouse. The electrified version of this legendary car will be piloted by none other than Sebastien Loeb, the nine-time World Rally Championship winner.

Sporting a striking Martini-inspired livery, this zero-emissions hatchback boasts an impressive all-wheel drive system powered by two electric motorsā€”one on each axle. Together, they deliver a staggering 671 horsepower, propelling the car from 0 to 62 miles per hour (0 to 100 kilometers per hour) in a mind-blowing 1.8 seconds.

According to Autocar, a second Delta World RX vehicle with identical specifications will be driven by Guerlain Chicherit, a well-known Frenchman recognized for his participation in the Dakar Rally and previous Rallycross events.

Loeb expressed his affinity for the Lancia Delta, stating, “I come from a generation that witnessed the triumphs of the Lancia Deltas in rally racing, so naturally, I have a deep fondness for this car. When I had the opportunity to try it in December 2022, I was immediately captivated by its exceptional performance and dynamic qualities.”

These modified rally cars were meticulously designed and manufactured by GCK Performance, a French motorsport engineering firm. Special One Racing, founded by Guerlain Chicherit, will utilize these exceptional vehicles for their competitive endeavors.

Chicherit shared his excitement, stating, “It has always been my dream to field two cars of my own brand in the World RX, and to have a sports legend like Sebastien behind the wheel is truly remarkable. This season, we have the chance to make history as the first to achieve victory in a World Championship race with a retrofitted car.”

Both electric vehicles made their debut on the track last November at the renowned Nurburgring before being showcased at the Charade Super Show in France, albeit with a black paint job.

Since last year, the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s top class has transitioned to an all-electric format, with RX1e cars being capable of generating 680 horsepower and 649 pounds-feet of torque. The highly anticipated 2023 World RX season is set to commence tomorrow in Montalegre, Portugal.

It’s important to note that this specific Lancia Delta EV is unrelated to the series-production model scheduled for a 2028 debut on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform.
