Rivian’s R1T and R1S vehicles are not your typical pickup truck and mid-size SUV. Beyond their powerful electric powertrains, these vehicles boast unique aesthetics and innovative features like the R1T’s gear tunnel and the R1S’s split tailgate. While these models currently lack the YouTube app or Google Cast in their infotainment systems, Rivian has announced that both features will soon be available.
In the upcoming months, Rivian will introduce a downloadable YouTube application and enable Google Cast functionality. This update will allow users to watch YouTube videos directly through the 15.0-inch touchscreen display in the R1T and R1S, by casting videos from their mobile devices.
Coming soon. Rivian and Google are excited to partner on Google Cast and @YouTube integration for R1T and R1S — bringing your favorite entertainment right to your vehicle. Existing and new owners of the R1T and R1S will be able to access these new infotainment features through a free over-the-air update. Once the update is available, users can access the YouTube app through the Video Application menu, and for Google Cast, they can connect to Wi-Fi and press the cast icon on their mobile device to project videos onto the vehicle’s screen. However, these video functions will only be available when the vehicle is parked, as they will be disabled while driving.
With a 2023 Rivian R1T already in their long-term fleet, Rivian enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the update to try out the new features, possibly during the downtime while plugged into a DC fast-charger.
