Rivian recently unveiled a new software build for its electric vehicles – the R1S and R1T. The company made sure to enhance both the convenience and safety of its electric cars with this update.

The latest software update has improved the functionality of the key fob’s proximity lock and unlock feature. Previously, this feature was only available through mobile phones, and the key fob was unreliable. The company has now improved this function, and drivers will receive a prompt on their display when the key fob’s battery requires replacing. This upgrade is a minor one, but it undoubtedly adds more convenience for the driver.

The most significant and impactful upgrade included in the software build is the integration of Google-powered search functions for the satellite navigation system. Additionally, the system automatically ends guidance when the car senses it is parked near the destination. Moreover, users can now swap between charger status pins on the map and view charger information.

The Highway Assist system in the Rivian R1S and R1T can now be activated by tapping the stalk twice, and it only takes one second to activate. The hands-off warning duration has been extended from 10 to 20 seconds, ensuring driver safety.

Several minor upgrades were also made, such as displaying the correct radio frequency, a progress bar for audiobooks and podcasts, and an upgraded front camera view for better obstacle detection.

Despite the delays and low production volume of the R1S and R1T, Rivian has continued to update and upgrade its vehicles. The company pushes software updates on a regular basis, ensuring that its vehicles get better with time.
