Rivian has introduced several new features in its latest software update aimed at simplifying the public charging experience for its R1S and R1T vehicles. One of the standout features is a reliability scoring system, which helps drivers identify the most reliable fast chargers on their route.

Similar to Tesla, Rivian has prioritized software development, leveraging it as a key differentiator and a means to enhance the overall ownership experience. With a fully integrated software stack, Rivian can swiftly roll out updates and introduce new features, providing an advantage as the brand continues to grow.

The latest update from Rivian includes a reliability scoring feature, a first-of-its-kind in the industry. This feature allows drivers to assess the reliability of fast chargers based on real-world experiences. The company’s trip planner also utilizes data from its connected fleet to direct drivers to the most reliable chargers, minimizing potential delays.

When a Rivian vehicle is plugged into a fast charger, it logs essential data such as the charger’s average top speed, payment success rate, and overall session success. Over time, this data is used to assign a reliability score ranging from A (highest) to F (lowest) to each charging site.

Rivian’s navigation system has also been updated to prioritize fast-charging sites with higher reliability scores when planning long-distance trips. If “A” and “B” ranked sites are not available, the navigation system will suggest the best alternative.

To access a charging site’s score, drivers can tap the charging site icon on the vehicle’s center display, within the trip planner, or on the Rivian app. The score is accompanied by additional information such as the charging network, maximum sharing speed, and real-time availability of chargers.

While some fast-charging sites have yet to receive a reliability score, Rivian plans to assign scores to all sites that its vehicles can use as more data is collected. This latest software update demonstrates Rivian’s commitment to improving the EV ownership experience and ensuring seamless long-distance travel for its customers.
