Rivian has been recognized by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) with the “REVolutionary Vegan Vehicle” Award for its commitment to ensuring that no animals are harmed in the production of its all-electric vehicles.
In a press release, PETA praised Rivian for its efforts to design vehicles like the R1T and R1S with cruelty-free materials, highlighting the company’s attention to detail in creating animal- and planet-friendly vehicles.
PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman commended Rivian, stating, “Every vegan vehicle rolled out by Rivian helps spare vulnerable cows and sheep being mutilated and killed for leather and wool car interiors. PETA is celebrating this company for helping to steer the industry toward an animal- and planet-friendly future.”
Rivian’s award from PETA is significant, as the organization is known for its strict standards regarding animal welfare. The recognition underscores Rivian’s commitment to sustainability and ethical practices in its manufacturing processes.
As a gesture of appreciation, PETA announced that it would be sending a box of “delicious cow-shaped vegan chocolates” to Rivian. The organization also highlighted the growing trend among carmakers to offer leather-free interiors, with companies like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen providing leather-free options in certain models, and Tesla offering fully leather-free interiors.
Rivian’s vehicles, including the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV, have been promoted as adventure machines that prioritize environmental conservation. The company’s upcoming models, such as the R2 crossover SUV, the R3, and R3X, continue this trend of sustainability.
Rivian’s success is also evident in its growing popularity, with CEO RJ Scaringe revealing that the company received 68,000 reservations for the R2 in less than 24 hours following its unveiling event.
