Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has made a significant move to expand its product lineup. Just one day after unveiling pre-configured dual-motor R1Ts in the R1 Shop, the company has now added the highly anticipated “Dual-Motor” and “Performance Dual-Motor” options to its online configurator. This means customers can now incorporate these options into their custom R1 builds.
Until now, Rivian’s vehicles came with a quad-motor configuration, featuring one electric motor for each wheel. While this setup provided exceptional traction, it also incurred higher costs and increased complexity for the company. To tackle this challenge, Rivian has been diligently working on developing its own cost-effective “Enduro” drive units. In May, the company successfully rolled out its first dual-motor trucks equipped with these Enduro drive units, marking a significant milestone in their production.
With production volumes increasing at our Normal, IL plant, we've added Performance Dual-Motor and Dual-Motor R1T to our online configurator and invited more order holders to configure. We're looking forward to seeing more Rivian vehicles of all kinds out on the road. pic.twitter.com/323cAnpk4h

With production volumes now scaling up, Rivian has decided to make the dual-motor units available for customers. These options were initially only visible in the invite-only “vehicle shop” section of Rivian’s website, where preorder holders could access inventory vehicles without having to wait for their custom builds. However, the configurations have now been added to the public configurator, allowing all interested customers to explore various options and place orders for the more affordable dual-motor models.
The base model R1T dual-motor variant starts at $73,000, while the R1S begins at $78,000 with the smallest “standard” battery pack. These prices represent an $8,000 reduction from the base quad-motor prices, resulting in significant savings for buyers. Moreover, the availability of tax credits further sweetens the deal. Notably, both these models fall under the $80,000 MSRP cap required to qualify for the US EV tax credit from the Inflation Reduction Act. This means qualifying buyers can receive an additional $3,750 back from the government for either model.
For those seeking enhanced performance, Rivian offers the “Performance” dual-motor setup. This upgrade boosts the power from 533 hp to 665 hp and improves the 0-60 acceleration time from 4.5 to 3.5 seconds. However, it’s worth noting that the performance system cannot be added to a “standard” battery pack, making the base price of performance models $84,000.
