Rivian, the American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has announced its quarterly production and delivery figures for the second quarter of 2023. The company’s performance during this period reached unprecedented heights, showcasing growth and establishing new records.

Rivian’s manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois, produced 13,992 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Q2 2023. This represents a staggering 218 percent increase compared to the same period last year and sets a new production record. Surpassing the previous best result of 10,020 units achieved in Q4 2022, Rivian has demonstrated a significant boost in its manufacturing capabilities.

In terms of deliveries, Rivian reported a remarkable 12,640 units during the second quarter, marking a substantial year-over-year increase of 183 percent. This record-breaking delivery figure far exceeded the previous record set in Q4 2022, which stood at 8,054 units.

While Rivian has not provided a breakdown of the delivery numbers by specific models, it is widely believed that the R1T pickup and R1S SUV remain the company’s top-selling vehicles. However, official confirmation regarding the popularity of these models is currently unavailable.

Rivian’s Q2 2023 results are as follows:

  • Production: 13,992 units (up 218% year-over-year)
  • Deliveries: 12,640 units (up 183% year-over-year)

The year 2023 has proven to be highly successful for Rivian thus far, with production figures exceeding 23,000 EVs and deliveries surpassing 20,000 units. These results reflect a remarkable growth rate of over three times compared to the previous year.

Rivian’s year-to-date results in 2023 are as follows:

  • Production: 23,387 units (up 236% year-over-year)
  • Deliveries: 20,586 units (up 262% year-over-year)

The robust performance of the last quarter instills confidence that Rivian’s production ramp-up has accelerated effectively.

For reference, in 2022, Rivian produced 24,337 electric vehicles and delivered 20,332 units to customers.

In its official statement, Rivian reaffirmed its production target of manufacturing 50,000 electric vehicles in 2023. Given the recent production rate, the company appears to be well on track to achieve this ambitious goal.

According to Rivian, “These figures remain in line with the company’s expectations, and it believes it is on track to deliver on the 50,000 annual production guidance previously provided.”

Since Q3 2021, Rivian has cumulatively produced nearly 49,000 electric vehicles and successfully delivered almost 42,000 units. The majority of the production has primarily catered to the U.S. market, with deliveries in Canada commencing in November 2022.

Details regarding the current reservation numbers for the R1T and R1S vehicles, as well as the exact quantity of vans delivered to Amazon (out of the contracted 100,000), remain undisclosed. However, updates regarding these figures may be revealed in the financial report scheduled for August 8, 2023.

Recently, one of the notable developments surrounding Rivian was its decision to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging connector beginning in 2025.
