Renault has released new teaser images of its upcoming 4 EV, offering a closer look at the small SUV ahead of its global debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
The new 4, based on the same platform as the electric 5, draws heavily on the design and heritage of the original 1961-1994 Renault 4, while incorporating modern electric vehicle technology.
Key design elements from the 4Ever Trophy concept have made it to the production model, including a rectangular illuminated grille and a lit badge, a first for any production Renault.
Other retro-inspired features include three-part segmented taillights, a trapezoidal rear quarter window, and plastic bumper extensions in place of the chrome seen on the original. The SUV also sports a retractable canvas roof, a roof spoiler, and black plastic wheel arch extensions, enhancing its rugged appearance, though the 4 remains a front-wheel-drive vehicle.
The new 4 is expected to share its drivetrain options with the electric 5, offering single-motor configurations with outputs of 94 hp (70 kW), 121 hp (90 kW), and 148 hp (110 kW). Battery options are likely to include 40 kWh and 52 kWh units, providing a balance between practicality and performance.
At 4,140 mm in length, the 4 EV will offer greater interior space and luxury compared to its classic predecessor, positioning it as a versatile and modern option in Renault’s electric lineup.
