Prologis, in partnership with Maersk’s Performance Team, has announced the launch of a cutting-edge heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) charging depot in Southern California. Located near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, this facility is set to be powered by the nation’s largest EV truck microgrid.

Situated conveniently off the Harbor (110) Freeway in Los Angeles on Denker Avenue, the Denker charging depot boasts the capability to charge up to 96 EV trucks simultaneously. Remarkably, this impressive facility was constructed in just five months, showcasing the efficiency and dedication of the Prologis and Performance Team collaboration.

Performance Team will operate a fleet of Volvo VNR Electric trucks at this location, contributing to their broader sustainability efforts. The Denker charging depot marks the third commercial truck EV charging project developed jointly by Prologis Mobility and Performance Team in Southern California. The Performance Team facilities in Santa Fe already feature Prologis Mobility charging infrastructure, providing a total of 4 MW of charging capacity, which is sufficient to charge 38 electric trucks.

In a statement, Henrik Holland, global head of Prologis Mobility, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration with Maersk, stating, “We’re delighted to collaborate with Maersk on this important and innovative new commercial truck charging facility. To bring the depot online quickly, we delivered an innovative on-demand charging solution as an interim power connection measure. The transition to zero emissions is a priority for both companies, and we’re proud to be on this journey together.”

With an estimated 20,000 trucks currently serving the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, this initiative underscores the crucial need for continued collaboration between government, regulators, and private industry to build the necessary infrastructure and equipment to support the trucking industry’s transition towards sustainability.
