Porsche’s electric sports car, the Taycan, recently achieved a significant milestone by setting a new record as the fastest all-electric vehicle on a challenging 1,146-mile journey from Thailand to Singapore. The remarkable feat was accomplished within an impressive time frame of under 30 hours, making it a remarkable achievement in long-distance EV travel.
During the nonstop driving challenge in Southeast Asia, three journalists embarked on the journey, utilizing the Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo model fitted with a performance battery plus pack. This specific Taycan variant, designed with up to 512 km (318 miles) range and an 800V battery pack, along with higher ground clearance, proved to be perfectly suited for the demanding task.

The success of this venture was facilitated by Shell’s Recharge High-Performance Charging (HPC) fast-charging network, launched in partnership with Porsche last November. The network features ABB’s 180 kW and 360 kW DC chargers, catering to the growing demand for EV charging in the region.
In adherence to national speed limits, the participants skillfully rotated driving duties while employing 25-minute intervals to utilize the fast-charging network efficiently. To optimize the charging process, the drivers also reserved their charging slots up to an hour before reaching the stations.
Safety and convenience were paramount during the journey, with Porsche’s Bright Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) LED headlights providing excellent visibility during the nighttime hours. The lane-keeping assist further contributed to a smooth and secure driving experience, ensuring the Taycan stayed safely within the lanes.
TAG Heuer timekeepers meticulously validated the timing for the entire journey, which concluded with a remarkable record of 29 hours and 15 minutes, firmly establishing the Porsche Taycan as an exceptional performer in the realm of all-electric vehicles.
Andre Brand, the general manager of Porsche Singapore, expressed pride in the Taycan’s already-established reputation for sporty performance, dynamic handling, and efficient charging. He emphasized how this latest achievement demonstrates the car’s capability for seamless, long-distance, cross-border travel, setting a new benchmark for EV enthusiasts.
