German sports car manufacturer Porsche has ambitions to produce large numbers of electric-powered Macan vehicles.
The production amount is expected to match the production of the Macan with an internal combustion engine (ICE). This was said by Head of Production Albrecht Reimold to Automobilwoche magazine, as quoted by Reuters, Monday (22/8/2022).
“We are producing more than 80,000 units of the current generation, and in the long term we also plan to produce as many electric Tigers as possible,” said Reimold.
The Macan compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) is one of Porsche’s best-selling models. So far, Porsche’s only electric car model is the Taycan coupe.
The electric-powered Porsche Macan is reportedly ready to be introduced in 2023, and will compete in the market with several competitors, one of which is the BMW iX3 which is both in the electric SUV segment.
Although the electric Tiger and Tiger models are rumored to have the same shape, however, the use of the platform used is very different. The electric Porsche Macan will use the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). That way, it’s very clear that the two are using different platforms.
