Polestar celebrates milestone of 100,000 units of Polestar 2 production

Polestar celebrates the 100,000th production milestone of the Polestar 2 in Luqiao, China. The electric vehicle will be delivered to a customer in Ireland and will feature a unique door sign to mark the production milestone.

“It’s an amazing achievement – especially given we launched the Polestar 2 during the pandemic. Thank you to the team and all our customers who have joined us on this exciting journey,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

Polestar 2 first shipped to consumers in July 2020. In Europe, the Polestar 2 is the No. 1 selling mid-range premium car. Over the nine months, fastback volume rose 63 percent to 17,994.

The Polestar 2 became Europe’s fifth-ranked premium EV during the period, ahead of the Audi Q4 E-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQA and the Volvo XC40, according to figures from Dataforce.

The company estimates it will deliver 50,000 electric vehicles worldwide by 2022.

The Swedish manufacturer’s portfolio expands with the presence of the electric SUV Polestar 3, which will join models in the premium electric SUV segment.

Polestar targets Polestar 3 sales to reach 67,000 globally in 2024 and increase global sales to 290,000 cars in 2025.

Polestar posted a third-quarter operating loss of $196.4 million, down from $292.9 million last year, while revenue rose to $435.4 million from $212.9 million.
