Polestar, the Swedish electric car brand known for its sleek and sustainable vehicles, is set to reveal its latest creation, the Polestar 4, at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18, 2023. This new addition to the Polestar lineup combines the aerodynamics of a coupé with the spaciousness of an SUV, resulting in a modern, technology-enhanced vehicle that is sure to turn heads.
The Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of the brand’s first SUV; rather, the design has been entirely reimagined to create a new breed of SUV coupé. This next-generation vehicle will feature design cues and sustainability enhancements previously showcased in Polestar’s concept cars, making their production debut in the Polestar 4.
Visitors to the Shanghai Auto Show can find Polestar at stand 6B07 in Hall 6.2, where they will see not only the Polestar 4 but also the Polestar 3 and the recently updated Polestar 2, making their first public appearance in China.
The Polestar 4 will be the fastest Polestar production car to date and is expected to be a slightly lifted sedan, similar to the Tesla Model Y. According to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, the Polestar 3 is more of a “true SUV,” similar in size to the Porsche Cayenne, while the Polestar 4 will be more of a “four-door GT but with a little bit elevated position.” The two models will also have different price points, with the Polestar 3 starting at $85,300 and the Polestar 4 costing around $60,000.
Polestar’s reliance on global partners for new models has been a reason for the brand’s slow expansion. Still, Ingenlath believes that Polestar’s partnership with Geely allows the brand to focus on products and technologies while letting its parent company handle logistics and manufacturing. The development of Volvo’s new SPA2 vehicle platform has been delayed due to software-related issues, pushing back the release of the SPA2-based Polestar 3 by almost a year.
With its unique combination of design, technology, and sustainability, the Polestar 4 promises to be a game-changer in the world of electric vehicles. As Polestar continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the automotive industry, the future looks bright for this innovative brand.
