Opel has recently unveiled its plans for electrifying its model range by announcing that the successor to the Opel Crossland B-SUV, set to launch in 2024, will be available with an all-electric drivetrain. This strategic move is part of Opel’s commitment to sustainable mobility and represents a significant step towards embracing electric vehicles across its product portfolio.

Opel’s CEO, Florian Huettl, highlighted the company’s dedication to providing customers with emission-free mobility, stating, “With the successor to the Crossland, we aim to offer battery-electric driving across our entire model range, enabling our customers to access locally emissions-free mobility in all our vehicles.”

Opel already offers a diverse range of battery-electric models, including the Rocks Electric quadricycle, the Combo-e Life, the Zafira-e Life, as well as all-electric variants of the Corsa and Mokka. The recently launched Astra Electric has also joined this lineup, and Opel plans to introduce an all-electric successor to the Grandland compact SUV next year. Furthermore, Opel has extended its battery-electric options to commercial vehicles, with the Rocks Electric Kargo, Combo-e, Vivaro-e, and Movano-e already available.

In addition to battery-electric vehicles, Opel provides alternatives to pure electric powertrains. The company’s electrified vehicle portfolio includes the flagship models of the Opel sub-brand GSe – the Astra GSe, Astra Sports Tourer GSe, and Grandland GSe. These models, known as “Grand Sport electric,” offer an exhilarating driving experience, with the Grandland GSe boasting a system power output of up to 221 kW/300 hp and a maximum torque of 520 Nm. To enhance stability during cornering, the GSe cars incorporate special springs and dampers featuring KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology.

Opel is also at the forefront of hydrogen fuel cell transporter development. The Vivaro-e HYDROGEN is already in use, and a larger fuel cell transporter is scheduled for release in 2024, showcasing Opel’s commitment to exploring alternative clean energy solutions.

Looking ahead, Opel plans to introduce 48V hybrid models to its electrified lineup, starting with the recently announced new Opel Corsa. The hybrid models will offer customers a choice between purely battery-electric, hybrid, and highly efficient combustion engines, providing versatility in the segment.

By the end of this year, Opel aims to have 15 electrified models in its lineup. The company is steadfast in its commitment to achieve a fully electric product portfolio across Europe by 2028, demonstrating Opel’s determination to embrace sustainable mobility solutions.

Opel’s announcement regarding the electrification plans for the successor to the Opel Crossland B-SUV reflects the brand’s proactive approach in adapting to the evolving automotive landscape. By expanding its range of electric and hybrid vehicles, Opel is positioning itself to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly transportation options.
