Ola Electric has announced two new electric scooter models, the Ola Gig and Ola S1 Z, featuring its proprietary Bharat 4680 battery cells. Sales for the models are scheduled to begin in April and May 2025, with both scooters designed to address personal and commercial transportation needs.

The Bharat 4680 cells are designed for enhanced performance, offering five times the energy density of conventional 2170 cells (275 Wh/kg). With an operating range of 10–70ºC, the batteries are intended to perform reliably across various climatic conditions. Ola states the cells have a lifespan of more than 1,000 charge cycles and support fast charging, reaching 50% capacity in 13 minutes. The company plans to diversify its chemistry options in the future, including lower-cost LFP and LMFP variants.

The Ola Gig is tailored for commercial use and is available in two variants, priced at 39,999 INR (450 euros) and 49,999 INR (562 euros). The standard version includes a 0.25 kW motor with a top speed of 25 km/h and a removable 1.5 kWh battery offering a range of 112 km. The plus version increases motor capacity to 1.5 kW, with a top speed of 45 km/h and an optional second battery, extending the range to 157 km.

The Ola S1 Z is designed for dual-purpose use, priced at 59,999 INR (674 euros) and 64,999 INR (731 euros). Both variants feature a 3 kW motor and a top speed of 70 km/h, with a standard 1.5 kWh removable battery offering a 75 km range. Customers can opt for an additional battery to increase the range to 146 km.

The Bharat 4680 cells will be produced at Ola’s gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, which has an initial production capacity of 1.4 GWh. The facility is expected to expand to 20 GWh by 2026. Additionally, Ola has introduced the PowerPod, a portable battery designed for powering small household appliances, providing an alternative energy solution in areas with limited electricity access.
