Australian battery manufacturer Novonix announced on Monday that it has entered into a binding off-take agreement with automaker Stellantis to supply synthetic graphite for Stellantis’ cell manufacturing partners in North America.
The agreement spans from 2026 to 2031, with Novonix committing to deliver between 86,250 and 115,000 metric tons of high-performance synthetic graphite from its Riverside facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“This contract allocates the remainder of our available volumes at our Riverside facility and a portion of volumes to be produced at our planned greenfield facility,” said Novonix CEO Chris Burns. The agreement underscores the company’s continued expansion in the U.S. market, particularly in support of electric vehicle (EV) battery production.
In addition to the Riverside facility, Novonix is progressing with the construction of a new production facility in the southeastern U.S. The new site is expected to have an initial production capacity of 30,000 metric tons per annum (tpa), with plans to increase that capacity to 75,000 tpa.
The expanded production capabilities are in response to the growing demand for synthetic graphite materials used in the manufacturing of EV batteries.
The partnership with Stellantis highlights Novonix’s role in the global shift towards electric vehicle adoption, driven by the need for high-performance materials for next-generation batteries.
