Nissan has announced a strategic partnership with the Spanish Acciona Group to handle the distribution of vehicles from the Silence micromobility brand in Europe. The collaboration will see Nissan take over the distribution of Silence’s product portfolio, including the four-wheeled Silence S04 Nanocar light vehicle and electric scooters, in France and Italy starting in June. The partnership will expand to the German market in September.

Nissan’s role will extend beyond distribution to include introducing financing, service, and insurance options for Silence vehicles through its dealerships. The move is part of Nissan’s broader strategy to strengthen its competitiveness, tap into new revenue sources, and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

Leon Dorssers, Nissan Manager for Marketing & Sales in Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Through this significant new partnership with ACCIONA, we’re ensuring that many more people can experience the power and excitement of electric mobility and take the first step on their EV journey.”

Carlos Sotelo, CEO of ACCIONA’s mobility division and Silence, highlighted the changing needs of urban drivers and the importance of innovative mobility solutions. He stated, “Silence’s light electric vehicles (EV), partnered with Nissan’s strong distribution network, offers new, exciting, and clever options for urban mobility in Europe, shaping a more sustainable future.”

The collaboration between Nissan and Acciona builds on an existing connection, as Silence is one of several companies producing at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona. Nissan ceased production at the plant at the end of 2021 as planned, marking the end of production for the Nissan e-NV200 electric van.

Silence’s product range includes electric scooters such as the S01, S01+, and S02, as well as the S04 four-wheeled L7e electric vehicle. The company’s two-wheelers offer a range of over 130 kilometers with a portable battery pack, while the two-seater Silence 04 combines two interchangeable batteries for an almost 150 kilometers range.

The press release did not provide details regarding the partnership between Acciona and Astara for distribution, which was confirmed in September 2023. It remains unclear whether this partnership has been cancelled or if the contracts may not be exclusive.
