Nikola Corporation has announced that their Tre class 8 electric tracktor head trucks are eligible for the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYTVIP), meaning their customers are eligible for incentives of up to $185,000 per truck.
NYTVIP provides vouchers, or discounts, to fleets throughout New York State who purchase or lease zero emission electric vehicles, both medium and heavy duty.
With this agreement, Nikola Tre BEV buyers can benefit from maximum incentives on scrappage terms.
The program administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is designed to make it easier to own this zero-emission fleet by significantly reducing upfront costs.
Nikola is also registered in California as part of the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) California Air Resources Board (CARB) Hybrid program and the Hybrid Bus and Truck Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). Electric heavy-duty trucks are eligible for a $120,000 incentive per unit for customers operating in the Golden State.
“By qualifying for the California and New York incentive programs, Nikola is able to make an impact in two key markets with high volumes of commercial traffic. Decarbonization of heavy-duty truck and port operations is more likely to be achieved, thanks to this accelerated zero-emissions vehicle adoption program. which makes clean haul trucks a more desirable choice for fleet owners,” said Michael Erickson, Nikola’s Global Head, Strategic Business Planning.
