Nikola, through its HYLA brand, has announced the opening of its latest high-pressure modular refueling station in Southern California. The new station, situated near the Port of Long Beach at 2267 W. Gaylord St., began operations on May 4, 2024. This development marks a significant step in Nikola’s strategic plan to establish a network of up to nine refueling solutions by mid-2024, with a total of 14 operational sites planned by year-end, including partner stations such as FirstElement Fuels’ facility in the Port of Oakland.

Ole Hoefelmann, President of Energy at Nikola, stated, “We are pleased to inaugurate our second HYLA hydrogen refueling station in Southern California, representing progress towards sustainable transportation.” Hoefelmann also expressed gratitude to the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Fire Department for their contributions to the project.

The new station reflects Nikola’s commitment to providing a high level of customer service, with round-the-clock assistance available through dedicated HYLA Ambassadors and Operation Technicians to ensure smooth and efficient fueling for customers.

Nikola is actively working to secure its hydrogen supply chain and expand its HYLA refueling infrastructure to meet growing demand. The company is collaborating with industry partners to promote the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and support environmental sustainability.

The HYLA refueling network offers a range of refueling solutions to Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and other Class 8 customers, including modular and permanent HYLA stations, “behind-the-fence” facilities, and partnerships with public truck stops. As part of its expansion, Nikola recently entered into a 10-year agreement with FirstElement Fuel for a hydrogen refueling station in Oakland, Calif.
