Nikola Corporation has announced that it is ahead of schedule in its plans to transition battery manufacturing from its facility in Cypress, California to its manufacturing plant in Coolidge, Arizona. The transition is expected to be completed by April 2023, several months ahead of the original schedule.
This move is part of Nikola’s efforts to streamline its operations and reduce costs by consolidating the production of its truck assembly, fuel cell power modules, and battery modules and packs under one roof. The transition will also involve the implementation of battery line automation to improve quality and efficiency.

“We are pleased with the speed at which the plan has occurred and are grateful for the Cypress team’s contribution,” said Michael Lohscheller, President and CEO of Nikola Corporation.
Despite the move, a battery engineering presence will remain in California at a separate facility to focus on the development of Nikola’s next generation battery management system software and modules.
Nikola completed the acquisition of Romeo Power on October 14, 2022, and announced the plan to transition battery manufacturing to Coolidge, Arizona on January 13, 2023. With this transition, Nikola aims to become a more efficient and cost-effective player in the electric vehicle industry.
