Nissan’s upcoming third-generation LEAF electric vehicle has been seen charging at a Tesla Supercharger in Canada, as the automaker prepares to officially unveil the model later this year.
The redesigned LEAF marks a significant departure from the previous hatchback styling, introducing a crossover form, improved range and native support for the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

The new LEAF will be launched first in the United States and Canada and joins the Ariya in Nissan’s North American electric lineup. Built on the CMF-EV platform, the same architecture as the Ariya, the vehicle is expected to deliver “significant range improvements.” While official EPA figures have yet to be confirmed, Nissan’s vehicle programs chief Francois Bailly told TopGear.com the WLTP range could reach up to 373 miles (600 km).
Bailly added that the shift in form factor is part of a broader strategy to appeal to a wider market: “The new LEAF is a sleek and spacious family-friendly crossover.”

One of the key updates is the inclusion of an integrated NACS port, making the LEAF Nissan’s first model to connect directly to Tesla’s Supercharger network without the need for an adapter. The vehicle was recently photographed in testing by KindelAuto at a Tesla Supercharger in Canada, with its new crossover styling nearly unrecognizable compared to its predecessors.
The upcoming LEAF is one of ten new or refreshed models Nissan plans to roll out in North America in the coming years. The electric crossover is expected to go on sale later in 2024, followed by the next-generation Rogue in 2026, which will be offered as a plug-in hybrid for the first time. Nissan also teased an “adventure-focused SUV” to be produced at its Canton, Mississippi plant starting in 2027.
