Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, reiterated the company’s stance that there will be no debut of the refreshed Model Y “Juniper” this year, echoing a statement made by the company a few months prior.
In February, Tesla informed its sales advisors in North America that a Model Y refresh would not be hitting the market in 2024, sparking speculation about its potential launch in other regions, akin to the Model 3 refresh. Musk has now reaffirmed this position, stating definitively that a Model Y refresh will not be introduced this year, seemingly across all markets.
No Model Y “refresh” is coming out this year.
I should note that Tesla continuously improves its cars, so even a car that is 6 months newer will be a little better.

Taking to X on Saturday, Musk addressed rumors suggesting a forthcoming simplified design for the Model Y, refuting them by stating, “No Model Y ‘refresh’ was coming out this year.” He further highlighted Tesla’s commitment to continual improvement through software updates, emphasizing that even vehicles purchased today undergo enhancements compared to those sold six months prior.
Reports from Reuters over the past couple of years have indicated Tesla’s intentions to refresh the Model Y, following the recent upgrade of the Model 3. Despite these reports, Musk and Tesla have responded directly, indicating that a refreshed Model Y is still a considerable distance away.
Last year, Tesla’s Model Y secured the title of the world’s best-selling vehicle, irrespective of powertrain. In a recent development, Tesla introduced a new entry-level variant of the Model Y last month, known as the Model Y RWD Long Range. This variant officially replaces the old base model and boasts an additional 60 miles of range.
