Mini, a subsidiary of BMW, has introduced two new models under its John Cooper Works (JCW) performance sub-brand at the Paris Motor Show. The new three-door Mini John Cooper Works Electric and five-door John Cooper Works Aceman bring racing-inspired technology to the electric vehicle (EV) segment, offering high performance and enhanced standard features.

Both models are powered by a 190 kW electric motor, delivering 350 Nm of torque and a top speed of 200 kph. The three-door Mini John Cooper Works Electric accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds, while the five-door Aceman achieves the same in 6.4 seconds. These power levels mark a 30 kW increase over the current Mini Cooper SE, which produces 160 kW.

Despite their high performance, both models share the same 54.2 kWh (gross) battery as the Cooper SE. In the WLTP test cycle, the Mini John Cooper Works Electric offers a range of up to 371 kilometers, while the John Cooper Works Aceman provides a range of 355 kilometers.

Mini had already hinted at its electric JCW ambitions during the British Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, when it showcased a prototype of the all-electric John Cooper Works. The brand’s commitment to electrification and its motorsport heritage were on full display, marking the prototype as a “significant milestone” for Mini.

The new models represent the brand’s first foray into fully electric performance vehicles, drawing inspiration from over 60 years of racing history, including successes at the Monte Carlo Rally and the Nürburgring 24-hour race.

Stefan Richmann, Head of the Mini brand, emphasized the blend of tradition and innovation in these new models: “With the new all-electric MINI John Cooper Works models, we are bringing the legendary performance and driving dynamics of MINI into a completely new era.”

A notable feature of the new JCW models is an electric boost function that enhances power for overtaking and acceleration. Activated by a paddle switch on the steering wheel, this “go-kart mode” adds 20 kW of motor power, providing a dynamic and engaging driving experience. The suspension is tuned for a “go-kart” feel, and both models come equipped with high-performance tires as standard.

Design elements in the new JCW models also nod to Mini’s racing legacy. The iconic red, white, and black John Cooper Works logo, reminiscent of motorsport’s checkered flag, is prominently displayed on the front grille. An illuminated logo projection greets drivers from the wing mirrors as they approach.

The design can be further customized with a Chili Red contrasting roof or a multitone roof featuring a red and black gradient specific to the John Cooper Works models.

Inside, the vehicles feature a high-resolution OLED display, measuring 240 mm in diameter, which provides access to vehicle data, climate controls, media, and navigation. The new Mini Experience Modes allow for customizable interior ambiance, further enhancing the driving experience.
